Created by filmmaker Jon Burklund (ZANNI Productions), this 13-minute documentary on THE EXTINCTIONIST—Heartbeat’s first-ever commissioned opera with music written by Daniel Schlosberg and libretto by Amanda Quaid—is now available on YouTube.
Heartbeat Opera’s visual album BREATHING FREE (music directed and arranged by Daniel Schlosberg) has been nominated for a 2021 Drama League Award in the category of Outstanding Digital Concert Production.
Schlosberg and Ethan Heard, Artistic Director of Heartbeat Opera, will be interviewed by Radio OPAC (Ohio Prison Arts Connection) on Facebook Live @ohioprisonartconnection on Heartbeat’s production of Beethoven’s FIDELIO.
Later this fall, Schlobserg, along with Heartbeat Opera’s co-director Ethan Heard and students from the Eric H. Holder Initiative for Civil and Political Rights at Columbia University, will be working with six prison choruses in the Midwest—Oakdale Community Choir, KUJI Men’s Chorus, UBUNTU Men’s Chorus, HOPE Thru Harmony Women’s Choir, East Hill Singers, and Voices of Hope—on their performances of O welche Lust from Beethoven’s FIDELIO. Footage will be featured in Heartbeat Opera’s production of FIDELIO at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the fall.
Schlosberg’s arrangement for Beethoven’s FIDELIO will be performed by Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, in a semi-staged production, as part of BSO’s celebration of Marin Alsop in her final season as Music Director. The BSO performances are on 2020.09.25 and 09.26.
Schlosberg accompanied Angel Blue for a performance of Donde lieta uscì from Puccini’s La Bohème at the Decades Ball, hosted by Lapham’s Quarterly.
Schlosberg’s arrangement for Heartbeat Opera’s production of Beethoven’s FIDELIO was excerpted on France Inter radio program (audio excerpt at 04:08; interview excerpt at 24:54).
Schlosberg, in the role of music consultant, worked with playwright Tony Kushner and director Oskar Eustis on The Public Theater production of A Bright Room Called Day. The show opened today and ran through 2019.12.22.
Heartbeat Opera, of which Schlosberg is a co-music director, has signed with Opus 3 Artists and will begin to tour its productions of CARMEN and FIDELIO nationally with Schlosberg’s arrangements.

Schlosberg, in the role of audition, rehearsal, and soundtrack pianist, began work with playwright Tony Kushner, director Steven Spielberg, and music director Jeanine Tesori on West Side Story (2020). The film opens 2020.12.18.
